Pinoy Atheist

Hi. My name is Marco and I am an atheist. Yes, no big deal but I am from a prominent Catholic country called the Philippines.  A country so beautiful and yet plagued with  age old superstitions and double standards.  A whole lot of other religions can be found in this diverse multi-cultural country.

I decided to make a blog about it since I think this is  one of my venue of pouring myself out in the open. I am a young adult, single and I am a man who seeks truth about things. A truth seeker if there's ever  such a word, and a free thinker. About 80 percent of the 90+ million population in the Philippines are catholics. The other 20 percent is divided by christian denominations, muslims, traditional folk religions, buddhism, taoism, shamanism, animism. And anything else that believes in a deity, or worships someone or something. So many but my view and belief is virtually unheard of in this part of the globe.

I have yet to meet someone who is a filipino atheist like me. There are communist rebels in the philippines.Which I am not really familiar about since I don't adhere to communism. They suppress freedom of individuality. The very thing that is important to me as an atheist is freedom of individuality. Real freedom is achieved from not being a part of a system of belief that was given to us since birth. Without even questioning it or having the chance of choosing what to believe in. Indoctrinated by the very religion your parents have. And the parents they had before them, and so on.

Let me share to you some of my personal beliefs. In no particular order.

1.There is no afterlife. Life is precious that you only have one chance to live it. Not in heaven. Not in purgatory. Not in hell. But only right  here, right now on earth.

2. Morality is dependent on which part of this rock you were born.

3. Man made God not the other way around.

4. Religion invented the Devil to believe in God.

5. The Bible, Quran, Torah are all good literature but terrible at the same time.

I am almost convinced that I am the only one in this country. But of course this isn't true. But chances might be 1 in every 50,000 filipinos. If there's someone out there like me and is and not afraid to speak out, please let me know. I want to know your views as well. I also welcome criticism as long as it is factual and sensible. I do not tolerate trolls, haters, discrimination and basically stupid remarks that will not promote a healthy intelligent discussion.

You can ask me any questions you like or share your thoughts on this topic.
